Office Garden

Designed for a private office environment, this project explores how landscape architecture can actively support wellbeing and daily performance within a working routine.
The brief focused on creating a restorative natural setting where employees could step away from screens, recalibrate attention, and reconnect with a slower rhythm during the day.
Despite the compact site area of approximately 200 square metres, the ambition was to create a landscape with a strong spatial presence and emotional depth — a place capable of feeling larger than its physical boundaries.
The composition is organised around a functional terrace directly connected to the water’s edge. Positioned as an extension of the office interior, the terrace serves as a setting for informal meetings, short breaks, and moments of individual retreat.
A large-scale waterfall forms the visual and acoustic anchor of the garden.
Intentionally disproportionate to the size of the site, it introduces vertical drama and creates a sense of immersion, separating the workplace atmosphere from the surrounding urban context.

The sound of falling water generates continuous white noise, softening external disturbances and establishing an acoustically calm environment.
The client envisioned a generous water element that would remain safe and approachable for everyday use.

The solution was a predominantly shallow pond finished with decorative lining that enhances clarity and reflectivity, creating an aquarium-like experience. Fish remain highly visible and naturally approach the terrace edge.
Over time, feeding the fish evolved into a daily ritual for the team — a simple but meaningful pause that supports mental reset and informal social interaction within the workplace.
Located within a dense urban setting, the site was enclosed by high perimeter fencing that initially imposed visual pressure and reduced the perception of openness.
A layered vertical grove was introduced along the boundaries to dissolve this condition. Multi-level planting softens the hard horizontal line of the fence, visually extending the space while creating privacy.
Gentle topography and a meandering pathway reinforce the experience of movement through a natural environment rather than a confined courtyard.
The project demonstrates how even a small commercial site can function as a restorative landscape ecosystem.
Rather than acting as decoration, the garden became an active part of office life — supporting concentration, informal communication, and everyday rituals that contribute to emotional resilience and workplace wellbeing.
